The Boys Are Here!!!

After a month in the hospital, Aaron Michael and Nicholas Avery made their arrival via c-section on July 25. Aaron weighed 6 lbs 1 oz and Nick weighed 5 lbs 11 oz. I had to be admitted to the hospital at the end of June for hypertension, swelling and contractions. I had fairly strong contractions the whole time. I was able to come off the terb pump at 36 weeks, taking oral terb until 37 weeks. The boys made their arrival at 37 weeks 1 day, quite an accomplishment considering how this pregnancy has went! On the morning of July 25, I started having stronger than normal contractions at about 2:00 am. They were coming about 4 minutes apart. Finally, a nurse agreed to call my doctor to see if I could be checked. At 5:30 am, I was checked, and dilated to 4 cm. My doctor came in about 6:00 to check the positions of the boys. They weren’t in favorable positions, so about an hour and a half later I was entering the OR, ready for a c-section.

Just a few minutes into the surgery, we heard the most beautiful sound in the world, Aaron’s first cry. One minute later, came Nicholas’s first cry. The boys did wonderfully, and there were no complications. Nick did fail his first hearing test, but passed the second. Both boys had low blood sugar the first day, but were fine afterwards.

Update on Lisa

Just a little update on Lisa and the babies. Lisa had another sonogram this morning and Baby A is head down now, which is wonderful news. Baby B hasn’t moved his position as yet. Lisa has been having contractions since yesterday afternoon. She refused to take any more of the oral terb. The doctor was not too happy but has to abide by Lisa’s wishes. We did get to walk with Lisa down the hall today to the nursery to see the babies. This is the first time she has walked outside of her room in 3 weeks. Well that is about all for now, except I am attaching a photo of Lisa that I took today in her pretty hospital gown! LOL

Will give you more updates as they become available. Hopefully next time it will be to let you know that the babies are here.

Update From Room 258

Thanks everyone for the phone calls, cards & visits! We cancelled our internet because we were getting terrible service & will be switching back to our former provider, which will take a little while to set up since it’s DSL. So for now, my email will not work.

The day we have been waiting for is almost here. I will be off the terb pump on Saturday, July 17 at 12:00a.m. At that time, my doctor will be starting me on oral terbutaline, which she does not think will work. I have been having more contractions than normal, but so far they have not become closer together. We don’t know if they’ve made any cervical changes because my doctor does not want to check me, in case it would stir things up more. This Saturday marks 36 weeks!

I had an ultrasound today. Aaron & Nicholas are doing great. Both are getting perfect scores on their biophysical profiles, complete with plenty of breathing movements!

Aaron now weighs an estimated 6 lbs 4 oz while Nicholas weighs 6 lbs even. Right now, both are laying sideways with their heads on the left. If they stay in this position, I am having a C-Section. There are only two scenarios that we are comfortable with for a vag delivery, A: vertex, B: vertex or A: vertex, B: transverse. Right now it doesn’t look favorable. We will not be scheduling a C-Section, but rather just do one when I go into full blown labor.

Preterm Labor & Hospitalization

Wednesday night I went to the hospital because I was very swollen and gained 3 pounds in 12 hours, blood pressure was high and the boys weren’t moving much as possible. By the time we got there, my blood pressure had skyrocketed and some contractions had started.

On Saturday morning, my dose of Terb was increased. At 3pm that day, the contractions came back full force after not having any since that morning. They were 4 minutes apart.

We called Matria to get another dose increase, but they wouldn’t do it. Instead they told me to do on demand doses every hour. At 11:30 that night, they were back, but the midnight dose stopped them. I’ve had some today, not too many.

My doctor wants to hold things off for 2 more weeks, but I don’t think that’s going to happen. I’ll probably stay in the hospital for the remainder of this pregnancy.

OB Checkup

What a great appointment!!

My dad went in with me for the ultrasound. The biophysical profile went very well, great fluid , great heartbeats, great movement. Baby A was making breathing movements, so Aaron scored an 8/8 and Nicholas scored a 6/8. Then we did the cervical length, and it has grown some more! I’m at 2.2 cm (was 1.8 last week, 1.5 the week before) and was 1.8 cm while pushing. I guess a combination of the terb & bedrest is doing it’s thing.

As for the mucus, she said since they’re keeping such a close eye on me anyway to not be concerned about it. As for the nausea, just something I’m going to have to deal with since the babies are crowding everything. My fundal height is 41cm! I’m as big as a full term pregnant woman!

Baby A (Aaron) is sitting very low, breech. Baby B (Nicholas) is sitting high, transverse, with his head right next to A’s.

So a great appointment! With my cervical length the way it is, maybe I do have a good chance at going full term!

While I was there I dropped off teddy bears to OB for the Angel Teddy Bear Foundation. I also checked in on that little 32 week baby. He is just so tiny and so adorable!
